Returning to work
Perhaps you have taken a career break to raise children or there has been a health problem affecting your ability to work. It could be you have been in the same job for a number of years and the business closed down, leaving you searching for a new career, or you need some training in order to give you an advantage when applying for jobs.
What is nextstep into Work?
The nextstep into Work project is for anyone unemployed for more than 12 months and interested in working in the Health, Care, Construction, Engineering, Retail, Distribution and Logistics sectors. There is a wide range of different careers in these sectors. For example:
- Health - Porters, Ambulance Drivers, Health Care assistants, etc.
- Care - Care assistants, childminders, etc.
- Retail - Sales, Cashiers, shelf stackers, etc.
- Distribution & Logistics - HGV Drivers, Packers, Forklift drivers, etc.
- Construction & Engineering - Labourers, Manufacturing Processors, etc.
You will have a dedicated adviser to support your return to work.
What will you be doing
This is what to expect:
- Ongoing help and advice, even after you have found work;
- A realistic plan to make it easy to find work;
- Help with English and maths;
- Training for work e.g. forklift, retail, health and social care;
- Access to job fairs so you can talk to employers face-to-face;
- Personal development to boost your confidence
- Help with CV writing, application forms and interviews to really sell yourself; and
- Travel costs to meet your adviser.
